Message	nose pliers from HF for $5 or $6, and then if needed (which I did), use a dremel to grind the ends off a bit to make little hooks at the tips. That worked great for me. Otherwise, I kept fussing with various spring-clip pliers that would never hold the large ring-clip really well.
